January 4, 2008, Newsletter Issue #25: How to Ask for Weight Loss Support

Tip of the Week

Weight loss support can come from friends, family, and various social groups. You must, however, formally ask those providing you support if they are willing to assist you. Don’t assume they know you are attempting weight loss and are supportive of your efforts. By formally recruiting a support team you now have taken control of your environment and surrounded yourself with people who want you to succeed. At the same time there may be added pressure because you have made the people you are closest to aware of your weight goals. This can be a little intimidating for some. If you are shy you might have a problem asking for help. Be sure to rehearse what you plan to say ahead of time. You can also practice with your closest friends if this makes you more comfortable.
